Abstract

Adsorption is a method that can be utilized in the absorption of a motor vehicle exhaust gas, CO2 and NOx trough chicken feather biomass adsorbent. The purpose of this study is to determine how to make biomass adsorbents from chicken feathers and determine the effect of the addition of ascorbic acid and acetic acid to the characterization of biomass adsorbents from chicken feathers on motor vehicle exhaust emissions, CO2 and NOx. Chicken feather biomass is made by cleaning chicken feathers by washing chicken feathers, drying them and smoothing the chicken feather. Then wash again using chloroform and dry it. The biomass is then immersed with HCl which aims to restructure. Addition of ascorbic acid and acetic acid is done after HCl which functions as a crosslinking agent. Furthermore, an addition is carried out with a base which aims to neutralize the adsorbent. In addition to the two samples, one sample was also made without the addition of an activating agent. The addition of ascorbic acid in chicken feather adsorbent caused an increase in CO levels of 33,09% and a decrease in CO2 of 9,86%. The addition of acetic acid gave the best effect by decreasing CO and CO2 levels by 0,045 % and 39,13%.
