Abstract

The purpose of this study is to improve Piyungan Integrated Waste Management (TPST), Bantul Regency, Special Region of Yogyakarta, with a waste-based hierarchy. The method is a waste treatment process using the principle of 5R (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, Recovery, and Disposal) which believed can maximize the potentials, and resolve the problem in Piyungan TPST. One of the problem that were identified earlier was the overloaded TPST capacity due to waste from Kartanmantul. Data collection methods namely literature studies, and agency visits by electronic correspondence to the Provincial Office of Environment and Forestry (DLHK). The collected data is then analyzed using qualitative analysis methods and spatial analysis. The output of this research is the Piyungan TPST planning concept that shows the zones in TPST. The zone is divided into three. First, the reception zone, in which there are supporting infrastructure such as security post, parking lot, weighbridge, the green belt, and so on. Then, the second zone is the processing zone, which contains incinerators, and composting. Then the last is the disposal zone, which consists of landfill, buffer zone, buffer sub zone, and limited cultivation zone. But keep in mind, the concept of waste hierarchy cannot be optimal if it is not accompanied by community efforts to reduce waste production. Therefore, the role of reducing waste from households is also highly recommended.
