Abstract

Currently, garbage is a chronic problem that is troubling the community. One of the final disposal sites (TPS) is very concern is in Piyungan integrated TPS. The presence of pathogenic microorganisms such as bacteria in trash can make healthty problems. Therefore, there is needed preventive effort, one of which is the use of antibacterial soap. In this paper, the author presents J-SOAP as an environmentally friendly antibacterial soap product. J-SOAP is made from used cooking oil and jatropha leaf extract (Jatropha curcas Linn.) with formulations and test results that are in accordance with the Indonesian National Standard (SNI) regarding soap products. The use of used cooking oil as a basic ingredient for soap was chosen. Used cooking oil has a high content of free fatty acids and can be used as a basis for soap through the saponification process using an alkaline solution. The use of jatropha leaf extract (Jatropha curcas Linn.) in J- SOAP products is intended as an antibacterial agent because it of some active compounds. Based on research that has been done J-SOAP is proven to show the antibacterial activity of Staphylococus aureus and Escherichia coli. In addition, the results of the analysis of water content, pH, free alkali, and the amount of foam also meet the requirements of SNI 06-3532-1994. Based on these results, the presence of J-SOAP is able to become an environmentally friendly antibacterial soap product to support Indonesia towards zero waste.
