Abstract

Indonesia is the second largest waste producer country after China. Based on the World Bank Report entitled Indonesia Economic Quarterly Oceans of Opportunity 2019, Indonesia produces 105 thousand tons of waste every day. The uncontrolled problem of waste has a negative impact on several aspects such as the environment, health, and the economy. The program being carried out is 3R, consisting of Reuse, Reduce and Recycle. The 3R concept becomes an important foundation in the development of zero waste lifestyle. Planting and shaping the lifestyle is considered to be an effective solution to the problem of waste, not only processing existing waste but also controlling the emergence of new waste. The trend of zero waste lifestyle and environmental awareness in the community seems to be still low, this can be seen from the large number of people who throw littering, do not carry eco-friendly bag when shopping, and the high use of straws. Therefore, the writer offers a solutive idea, namely Smart Zone as an effort to increase zero waste lifestyle based on community development. Smart Zone is an application that provides some support services for planting and establishing zero waste lifestyle in the community through the challenge, event, shop, trash bank and open donation features. The success of the program is determined by the collaboration between the parties involved such as the government, academics, the private sector, landfill officers, environmental community, and the general public. This paper is written besed on qualitative-descriptive method with secondary data types.
