TERAPI PEMBERIAN SUPERFOODS BUBBLE GUM BERBASIS NANOTECHNOLOGY SEBAGAI UPAYA MENINGKATKAN QUALITY OF LIFE PADA PASIEN KANKER ANAK DENGAN KEMOTERAPI MEDIS

Abstract
The common medical treatment for pediatric cancer patients in chemotherapy. However, it has negative psychological and physiological effects which affecting the patient’s appetite and quality of life. Referring to the two side effects caused by chemotherapy, there is one important aspect, namely awareness of the incidence of malnutrition in patients. Malnutrition conditions have very detrimental effects on patients, one of which is that the drugs given through the chemotherapy process cannot work optimally. To overcome this challenge, complimentary therapies according to the children’s preferences such as chewing gum could be provided. Chewing gum is a method of sham feeding (pretending to eat) which can stimulate appetite without complications. The aim of this scientific research is to determine the potential of providing nanotechnology-based superfoods bubble gum as an effort to improve the quality of life in pediatric cancer who medical chemotherapy. The method used in this research is an in-depth case study approach through literature study. As a result, that superfoods bubble gum is effective and has great potential to improve the quality of life of pediatric cancer patients. Chewing gum intervention is effective in reducing oral mucosity (OM) scores, increasing saliva flow, and reducing cortisol levels which have a direct effect on the patient's stress condition. In addition, this superfoods bubble gum also contains nanoparticles of Fe, vitamin A and vitamin E with a bottom-up approach to prevent micronutrient deficiencies and anemia in pediatric cancer patients. There is great hope that with multi-sector collaboration, further testing can be carried out regarding pre-clinical and clinical trials.
